I associate daffodils with the whole start of solar spring going back to February 1st, but the significance deepens by this point as the daffodils in my area get closer to actually emerging from slumber — and as the Cymric national holiday of St. David's Day approaches on March 1st. Through their blossoming around St. David's, daffodils are a major symbol of Cymric identity.
