First Quarter: Ash, aspen

Very tall, white-barked, slender trees with green leaves line a dirt road under a blue, partly cloudy sky.
To the untrained eye, these may look like birches, but in fact they're quaking aspens. This photo comes from much further west, where aspen colonies can dominate landscapes; where I live, it's hard to photograph an aspen without many other species surrounding it.
